Babu Owino: I am ready to take over as ODM Chairman

By Peter Ochieng
Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino says a chance has presented itself for him to take over as ODM party chairman.
Owino’s sentiments came shortly after John Mbadi, the Orange party’s chairman, said he will soon relinquish the position, over what he termed as frustrations.
The nominated MP says he is not dying to be ODM chairman after serving diligently for 9 years.
“Those who think being chairman is so important to them let them offer themselves to lead. I am very ready to leave the position to them, right now I am the chair but I am not dying to be the chair, I have done my bit,” said the former Suba South MP.
Mbadi did not vie for any political seat in August 2022. He accused his detractors in the party for what he claimed was taking away his minority position in the National Assembly.
The legislature said his party leader, Raila Odinga is aware that he will soon leave the ODM chairmanship, adding that what is still holding him is the fact that the outfit does not have a vice chairman.
Reacting to Mbadi’s outburst, Babu Owino through a social media post said he is ready to take over.
“We wish you well Hon. John Mbadi as you step down from ODM party chairmanship. It is now my time to take over from where you have left and steer the party to greater heights and prosperity. Youth power,” said Owino.
The second term MP has always pushed to get a major position in ODM.
After the August 2022 polls, the MP pushed to net the position of Minority leader in the National Assembly. He never got the post, as it landed to Ugunja MP James Opiyo Wandayi.
Mbadi said that he will maintain his allegiance to Odinga, even if he resigns as the party’s chairman.
