At least three people are nursing gunshot wounds in Turkana South Sub County after heavily armed bandits opened fire on motorists along Lodwar – Kitale road in two separate incidents.
Turkana Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi said gunmen, suspected to be bandits, ambushed a convoy at Kaakong Trading Centre on Monday night and shot a truck driver.
And in a second incident near KWS area on Tuesday morning another attack left two people with serious injuries after bandits shot a driver and ahis passenger
According to Ndanyi, a driver was injured in the first incident while in the second incident the driver and his passenger were injured.
Ndanyi said three armed bandits attacked a truck travelling from Kitale to Lodwar at around 8 pm, just 100 metres from the town centre.
“A 37-year-old driver identified as Mohammed Abdullahi reported that the bandits started shooting indiscriminately at the windscreen but refused to stop,” the police said.
Ndanyi said the driver managed to drive to Lokichar where police officers visited him and found that he had received first aid.
He said a passenger drove the vehicle to Lodwar and rushed the injured driver to Lodwar County Referral Hospital for further treatment.
“The second truck, which was also heading to Lodwar, was attacked at the KWS hotspot area and the driver also managed to drive to Kaakong Centre to receive first aid at a local dispensary,” he said.
