The County government of Bungoma has procured drugs and pharmaceuticals equipment to the tune of Sh 58.4 million from Kenya Medical Supplies Agency to stock local health facilities.

Governor Ken Lusaka on Wednesday officially launched the drug distribution operations and said the supplies would help boost provision of health services to avert perennial shortages of drugs in public hospitals.

Speaking at Bungoma County Referral Hospital, Lusaka said his administration was determined to ensure that all health facilities were well equipped to offer reliable and quality services as required.

He warned that the County authorities will no longer condone the rampant theft of drugs from public facilities and cautioned medics found abetting the fraud that their days were numbered as those found culpable will be summarily relieved off their duties.

The Chair, Health Committee Bungoma County, George Makari, urged the Governor to factor CCTV cameras in the County budget to deal with drug theft issues.

“The only remedy for drug theft is to install CCTV cameras in all health facilities so that everything is monitored,” said Makari.

‘I visited Siritanyi Dispensary which is in my ward and medical officers working there told me there are no drugs,” Makari said thanking Governor Lusaka for the bold move.
