Turkana County Commissioner (CC) Mr. Jacob Ouma has directed parents to ensure children of school-going age go to school.
Speaking during the International Day of Forests at Moi Gardens in Lodwar Town, Ouma said the county risks being left behind if parents do not take children to school.
He said that he has witnessed many children who do not go to school whenever he tours various parts of the county, adding that the issue is a big challenge and called on leaders to be at the forefront in ensuring children attend school.
The CC at the same time urged all leaders to work together for the development of the county. “We do not have citizens who belong to the national government, others for the governor and others for the MPs and MCAs. All leaders serve the same citizens and that calls for cooperation among leaders,” said Ouma.
He at the same time lauded county residents for maintaining peace on Monday as some pockets of the nation witnessed confrontations between security officers and citizens.
Lodwar Township Member of County Assembly Ms. Ruth Kuya and her Kanamkemer counterpart Mr. James Ikeny said they recognized the government of President William Ruto and called on residents to shun mass action.
“We have so many challenges as a county including the current drought and we do not have the energy for mass action,” said Kuya.
Ikeny was categorical that the Kenya Kwanza administration should not engage in a handshake with Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga.
