DP Gachagua to Christians: Pray for me to continue being truthful, honest man

By Patricia Mollyne Mataga

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked Christians nationwide to continue praying for the nation and its leadership.

Speaking on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the Nakuru Athletic Club during the Consecration and Enthronement of Ven. Antony Mwaura Mambo as Nakuru Diocese Bishop, the DP specifically asked Christians to pray for President William Ruto and him.

He noted that the Head of State needs prayer so that he continues to steer the country into economic transformation.

The DP also noted that he needs prayers that will enable him to remain an honest and truthful man.

“I pray that we all Christians pray for the President to get wisdom and courage to lead the nation, especially in the economic transformation,’ said the second in command.

“Also remember me. You know I am a truthful man…pray for me that I continue to be a truthful and honest man,” he added.

Gachagua’s sentiments come at a time when the Kenya Kwanza administration seems to be split into two – one camp allied to the President and the other on the DP’s side.

The cracks have seen some of the senior Mount Kenya politicians led by National Assembly leader of the majority Kimani Ichungwa and Interior CabiNET Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki openly hit out at Gachagua.

They have accused the second in command of blackmailing the president, pushing his selfish political agenda and promoting tribalism.

But the DP remains adamant that he is speaking for the people.

On Saturday, Gachagua zeroed in on individuals close to the President he claims have been ordering him around.

He said he would not allow such a thing to continue.

“What the president tells me to do, I have done and will continue to do, respect him and be loyal to him. But I cannot allow people who hang around him, his friends, to also think they are my bosses, they are not. I am elected by the people of Kenya. I cannot confuse my boss with his friends, I am not that stupid, I know the difference,” the DP said.

“Even some of his friends, his PAs want to order me around on how to do my work. Is it possible? Even bloggers of the president want to tell me what to do… you know me, I have only two bosses, President Ruto and the people of Kenya,” he added.

With the ongoing cold war amongst politicians in the Mount Kenya region, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria suggested an impeachment was imminent.

He however did not specify the politician the impeachment would be targeted at.

“IMPEACHMENT LOADING……..” the CS said in a post dated June 15, 2024.
