By Peter Ochieng
The Ministry of Education headed by Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has released the revised 2023 school calendar for primary, secondary and tertiary institutions across the Country.
This is a follow-up on the last calendar released in November 2022.
According to the updated version, the first term which commenced on 23rd January 2023 will run for a period of 13 weeks until 21st April 2023 when schools close for the Easter holidays.
The two weeks holiday will run from 22nd April to 7th May 2023.
Before then, learners will break from the busy school engagements for half term, which runs for three days from 16th March to 19th March 2023.
The second term of 2023 will then run for 14 weeks, from 8th May to 11th August 2023.
Learners will be out of school for a short half-term break from 29th June to 2nd July 2023.
Schools will then close for the second term holiday on 12th August and reopen on 27th August, for the last term of the academic calendar year.
Being the shortest term of the year, there will be no half-term break.
The third term will run from 28th August to 27th October 2023.
The December 2023 holiday will run for 10 weeks, from 28th October 2023 to 8th January 2023.
Candidates will sit for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams from 30th October 2023.
Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) commences on 3rd November 2023.
The school calendar is taking its shape back to how it used to be, before the COVID-19 pandemic stroke the Country in March 2020.
