Former Education CS Prof Magoha is dead

Former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has died.

Magoha who served as a CS under retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration died on January 24, 2023.

According to multiple reports, the no-nonsense Cabinet Secretary who recently landed a teaching job at Maseno University died of Cardiac arrest.

He died while admitted at a Nairobi Hospital aged 71.

A source quoted by Capital FM indicates that Prof. Magoha has been unwell in the last few days.

“The former Cabinet Secretary Professor Magoha has passed on. He has been unwell, but today he got worse,” said the source.

Reports of Magoha’s death come barely a week after he was appointed Professor of Surgery at Maseno University’s School of Medicine.

It also comes at a time he was preparing to bury his brother Alex Magoha who died in the United States of America.

The burial had been scheduled for January 28, 2023.

Before being appointed Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Magoha served as the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Chief Executive Officer.

He was also the Vice-Chancellor at the University of Nairobi.

Prof. Magoha will be remembered for steering the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and being a tough-talking CS.

His body has been moved to the Lee Funeral Home.
