Government is in the process of collecting data on poor and vulnerable persons in the society to establish an enhanced single data registry.
According to Loitoktok Sub County Children Officer, Dennis Njoroge the programme dubbed Enhanced Single Registry (ESR) aims at collecting all information concerning the poor, elderly as well as the orphans and those living with disability.
Speaking to KNA, Njoroge said the information will be consolidated into a single registry where in case of need of making any informed decision, the government would make reference to the data.
“Apart from the government making informed decision through the data, other non-government organisations who would wish to assist the poor and vulnerable in the community may access the data,” he said.
In order to kick off the process in the sub county, the Childrens’ officer noted that his office is working closely with the department of social development and has recruited 110 enumerators who will soon be engaged in data collection.
He also noted that they have also recruited 10 supervisors who will be in charge of the process in the field and together with the enumerators will be moving from house to house collecting data.
However, Njoroge said the process of data collection had been temporarily halted as the department of social development is engaged in Inua Jamii programme which will start this week where the elderly who were recently registered will be opening accounts with various banks for deposit of their cash transfer money.
“We are also engaged in registering households of persons living with disabilities who were recently registered,” he added.
The household registration will be conducted at the grassroots level then followed by opening of accounts to be included in the cash transfer programme.
