Kimani Ichung’wah: Arrest Raila, Uhuru

By Peter OchiengĀ
Members of Parliament aligned to the ruling Kenya Kwanza Alliance are calling for the arrest of Azimio leader Raila Odinga, and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The legislatures led by the majority leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah want Raila arrested for illegally declaring Monday, 20th March a public holiday.
The lawmakers say Uhuru Kenyatta should be arrested for reportedly sponsoring Azimio protests.
“We ask the IG of Police not just to arrest the small boys who are paid to riot. If the buck stops at the door of Odinga, go for Odinga. If the buck stops at his sponsor’s door, go for them,” said the Kikuyu MP.
“Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake brother Raila Odinga are planning the demonstrations to derail ongoing investigations on the crimes committed under the previous regime.”
He equated the demos called by Odinga to what bandits are doing in parts of Rift Valley.
“What Raila is doing is only equivalent to what the bandits parts of North Rift are doing. Mr Odinga is involved in a scheme of urban banditry and he must be held to account,” noted Ichung’wah.
During the demos, people believed to be Azimio supporters broke into UDA offices in Milimani, Kisumu and destroyed property of unknown value.
The majority leader says Odinga’s party – ODM must pay for the loses incurred.
A bank, a hotel and a shopping mall were also pelted with stones in Kisumu, leading to destruction of property.
He said they will raise the issue with the registrar of political parties.
“Our Secretary-General will demand that the money meant for ODM be given to our party as compensation for the destruction that took place in the Kisumu office,” Ichung’wah stated.
Meanwhile, Odinga on Tuesday declared that the demos will be staged every Monday and Thursday, starting March 27, 2023 due to ‘public demand.’
