Prominent Kenyan lawyer and politician Paul Muite has dismissed social media reports that he is suffering from cancer.

Reports of the Senior Counsel suffering from cancer emerged on Friday, July 15, 2022, after a photo of the lawyer while frail surfaced on social media.

“Cancer is a monster, quick recovery senior counsel Paul Muite,” a Twitter user Eugene Nyabati posted the photo.
Many of the social media users replied to the photo, wishing the lawyer a quick recovery.

But responding to the reports that he had cancer, Muite said they were not true.

In a tweet posted on his official Twitter handle, the Senior Counsel said he had shed off weight intentionally to keep his sugar levels where they should be.

He also noted that he had several hours of jogging, a confirmation that he was well, and not sick as the earlier posted photo had alluded.

“Reports on social media that I am sick with cancer are NOT TRUE. Given my age,I have had to shed off weight on purpose to keep sugar levels where they should be otherwise I have never felt better;enjoyed 1 & 1/2 hrs jogging in Ngong forest this morning,” Paul Muite said in the tweet.

With reports that he was sick, a number of popular social media users had already dismissed the reports.

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi was among those that dismissed the reports.

In a tweet on his official handle, Abdullahi said; “I had lunch with Hon Paul Muite SC yesterday, had known him for 30 years and meet him regularly on a weekly basis and was dismayed and utterly disappointed with the malicious rumours on his health. Paul is in very good health.”

Paul Muite was a prominent figure in Kenya’s second liberation struggle during the 1990s to remove the single party.

He served as vice chairman of the Forum for the Restoration of Democracy – Kenya (Ford Kenya), before founding the Safina party of Kenya.

The 77-year-old lawyer previously served as a law clerk and later as a Member of Parliament for the Kabete Constituency.
