Man returns home 53 years after he went missing
By Peter Ochieng
A village in Tharaka Nithi County swung into life, after a son of the soil who went missing over 50 years ago finally returned home.
Njeru Mwiru went missing from Gachiongo village 53 years ago, and all along members of his family never gave up on uniting with him, at a particular point in time.
Mwiru reportedly went missing in 1969 while aged 20 years. And now, he has come back a 73-year-old man.
When quizzed on where he was all that time, Mwiru said he was in Kitui County, Eastern Region, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
One of his younger siblings said he took it upon himself to traverse the entire Ukambani region in search of his brother, after getting a clue that he was in the region, but he never met him until his return.
Like the Biblical prodigal son, Njeru Mwiru returned home with nothing, besides a sack of his clothes and a panga he bought while in ‘exile.’
He never married nor got children for the time he was away from home.
