Met department issues weather forecast for the weekend

The Kenya Meteorological Department says several parts of the country are expected to continue reducing rainfall over the weekend.

However, most parts of the country are expected to remain dry.In the weekend weather forecast released on Friday, the weather man listed Nairobi, Western Kenya and Rift Valley as regions expected to witness rainfall.

“Continued rainfall is likely over the Central Highlands, including Nairobi, Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin, and Rift Valley regions,” said the weather msn.

“Northwestern Kenya may receive rainfall from Monday, 20th May. Isolated heavy rainfall events may occur in these areas,” it added, pointing out that “The rest of the country is expected to remain generally dry”.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Meteorological Department has also watered of some parts of the country witnessing string winds.

They include Eastern and North western parts of the country. “Strong southerly and southeasterly winds of over 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected in the Eastern half of the country and the Northwestern region,” said the weather man said.

“Residents and travelers should prepare for wet conditions in the Central Highlands, including Nairobi, Western Kenya, parts of Northwestern, Lake Victoria Basin, and Rift Valley regions,” it added.

The country has for the last few months been witnessing heavy rainfall.The rains have led to floodings in some parts of the country.

Data from the government indicate that at least 25 counties have been affected.

Over 200,000 families have also been affected, most of who are currently staying in camps.

The government has so far set up 187 camps for those affected.
