MP Babu Owino finally accepts Raila Odinga is not the President
By Peter Ochieng
Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino is ready to move on after finally accepting the fact that Azimio La Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga, is not the President.
Owino has cut a niche as one of Odinga’s die-hard supporters. He was highly expected to win the August 9th presidential contest, multiple opinion poll results had shown him in the leading days of the polls.
But William Ruto, then Deputy President, won the contest without the support of his then boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta who backed Odinga’s bid.
That left a host of Odinga’s supporters among them Babu Owino in a state of disbelief.
The second term MP has now accepted the fact that Odinga did not make it to State House.
“Leo nimeamini hii kitu ilienda kweli.Ni kama Ndoto (Today I believe this thing – the Presidency went. It is like a dream). We must get PAC CHAIRMAN as opposition to oversight the Government,” Owino posted on his social media platforms on Thursday.
PAC stands for the Parliamentary Accounts Committee.
His message came shortly after President William Ruto addressed Senators and MPs in a joint sitting, where he gave a hint of his plans to improve the Country’s economy.
Owino is expected to contest for the PAC chairmanship under Azimio wing.
President Ruto said Cabinet Secretaries will be required to attend Parliamentary sessions at least once every week to answer questions raised by MPs, as a way of over-sighting his government.
That will happen as soon as standing orders are amended.
