Mutahi Ngunyi’s ‘strange’ request to Ruto

Mutahi Ngunyi’s ‘strange’ request to Ruto

By Joshua Cheloti

It has been barely a day since Dr William Ruto was sworn in as the fifth President of Kenya.

Ruto’s swearing-in ceremony was held on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani, in Nairobi County.

With him now totally in control of state powers, all Kenyans’ hopes are in his hands.

There has been a variety of suggestions and requests that Kenyans of different walks have put on the president’s table, as he starts his five-year term.

But for controversial political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi, he has what many might consider a strange request.

Ngunyi has been a boardroom member of Uhuru’s team for the last 10 years, six of which he notes he worked with Ruto – of course before the March 2018 handshake shacked up things up in the second term of the Jubilee government.

And having been a regular visitor to State House, the political analyst says it is time the new president allocated a toilet for his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

In a tweet on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, Mutahi Ngunyi argues that for the six years he worked with Ruto, it was demeaning that at times he found himself queuing in the urinal at the State House with the then second in command.

It is something he hopes Ruto will correct, now that he is the man in charge of the house on the hill.

“…But I have only ONE REQUEST. He should DESIGNATE a TOILET for Riggy G. Standing in QUEUE on the URINAL with Ruto at STATEHOUSE was DEMEANING of his Stature. REAL story. Please CORRECT it,” the political analyst said in part of his tweet.

However, despite having been on the opposing side with Ruto ahead of the August 9 general election, Mutahi Ngunyi believes Ruto will make a good President.

In the just concluded general election, the political analyst often credited for coming up with the infamous ‘tyranny of numbers’ tag was backing Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

“I have WORKED with Ruto in Board Room 6 at State House. This MAN will make a GREAT President,” he said.
