Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama has broken his silence, days after missing out on President William Ruto’s cabinet nomination.

The Head of State nominated 22 people for Cabinet slots two weeks ago. Muthama, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Chairman was highly expected to make the cut, but that was not the case.

Speaking to TV47 on Sunday, the vocal politician said Cabinet positions are very few to be occupied by everybody.

“We are 50 million Kenyans. Putting into consideration who voted for the UDA is 50 plus 1 percent, so 49 percent we assume they did not vote for UDA. That means to accommodate everybody who went to vote for UDA will qualify to have very serious positions. That means we will need to have 25 million positions,” said Muthama.

“If you take the number that voted for UDA of about 7.2 million people, you need that number of Cabinet Secretaries. There are those who work for others to benefit. There are those who love this country so much that they cannot consider the contribution they make should be paid or compensated. I am one of those who work and make others live well,” said the former legislature.

He said he never, in the first place demanded to be a Cabinet Secretary.

The former Senator said very soon, he will get a position that will enable him to continue playing his role as a leader.

“I am getting something very soon. I am getting something that will make me play football as a distributor, as player number six.”

The Ukambani region will be represented in Cabinet by former Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.

President Ruto nominated Mutua Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs. The nominees are awaiting Parliamentary approval before being sworn into office.

Muthama and Mutua have always been at loggerheads.

When Mutua joined Kenya Kwanza from Azimio La Umoja One Kenya ahead of the August 09, 2022 polls, Muthama said he was a joy rider who had joined the ship very late in the day.
