Nick Mwendwa giving President Ruto a bad name – Alai

Kileleshwa Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai wants Nick Mwendwa, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President to be stopped, at all costs.

Alai says Mwendwa is giving President William Ruto a bad name, after storming FKF offices in Nairobi, this week. Apparently, the two are friends.

Speaking after returning to the office, Mwendwa said he was arrested and charged with corruption simply because he was a friend to Ruto, then Deputy President.

In November last year, Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Sports Ambassador Amina Mohamed disbanded FKF and appointed a panel to run Kenyan football before Mwendwa was arrested and charged for alleged misappropriation of the federation’s funds.

The charges were later dropped due to lack of evidence, giving the FKF boss and other federation officials the impetus to storm back this week, after 9 months in the cold.

According to Alai, Mwenda’s move was un-presidential, given the fact that he sometimes hangs out with President William Ruto.

“I think that Ruto hangs out a lot with Nick Mwendwa. He is making the President un-presidential. Nick Mwendwa must be stopped,” said Alai.

CS Mohamed termed Mwenda’s move to storm back into office as a break-in by people not supposed to be in charge of football activities in the Country.

She said as far she is concerned; football affairs in the Country are in the hands of a transitional committee she put in office.

Mwendwa and co were in the company of police when they stormed back, an indication that they have government backing.

The world football governing body, FIFA banned Kenya from all football activities after FKF was disbanded. Mwendwa said the ban will soon be lifted.
