Police in Kisumu have launched a manhunt for suspects who killed a watchman and broke into a motor vehicle spare parts’ shop at Jua Kali area on Wednesday.

In the 5:00 am incident, the suspects hit the 60-year-old with a blunt object on the head before making away with goods of unknown value from the shop.

Confirming the incident, Kisumu Central Police Commander Peter Mulai said police have launched investigations into the matter to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

Mulai said police officers dusted the scene for fingerprints and would do everything possible to apprehend the culprits.

“The Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed at the shop were not functional therefore we have not obtained any footage to help in the identification of the suspects,” he said.

The value of goods stolen from the shop, he added, has not been established adding that the owner claimed that the suspects also made away with Sh30,000 which was at the shop by the time of the incident.

He urged members of the public with any information that could aid in the investigations to submit it to the police to ensure that the suspects are nabbed.

Police officers, he added, have been directed to enhance patrols in the city to ensure that security is beefed up.

The body was moved to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital awaiting postmortem.
