Roots Party did not have any elected leaders in the August 9 poll, which means it will not be eligible to get a share of the funding of political parties.

While announcing her resignation from the party, Wamae also shared a letter from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, which confirmed that she was no longer a member of any party.

She also noted that her role as the party’s presidential running mate had lapsed from the time IEBC declared William Ruto winner of the presidential election.

“In this regard, I tender my resignation as a member of Roots Party of Kenya. Kindly accord the ORPP the requirements for my name’s prompt removal from your party register,” Justina Wamae said in a letter dated September 21, 2022.

Wajackoya and his running mate had already split days after the August 9 general election, and the latest move signals an end to one of the popular pairs in the presidential election.

In the August 9 poll, the duo finished third after garnering 61,969 votes.
