Raila truly deserves our understanding and prayers – Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi

By Joshua Cheloti

Prominent lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi is now describing former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s latest political move as a national embarrassment.

Ahmednasir in a tweet on January 24, 2023, further said the opposition leader’s ‘shenanigans’ are not usual.

He however pointed out that Raila does not deserve condemnation.

Instead, the Senior Counsel said, the veteran opposition leader deserves understanding and prayers.

“Hon Raila’s endless shenanigans aren’t normal and are obviously a national embarrassment. But he doesn’t deserve our unison national condemnation and censure. Raila truly deserves our understanding and prayers,” Ahmednasir tweeted.

The constitutional lawyer was making reference to the ODM leader’s recent announcement that he does not recognize President William Ruto’s government.

Addressing a highly charged rally at Kamukunji Grounds in Nairobi on January 23, 2023, Raila also asked Kenyans to reject all policies that the Kenya Kwanza government has implemented.

“We do not recognise the Kenya Kwanza administration as a legitimate government and Ruto as the president or any official in his government,” he said.

“We are asking Kenyans to resist the punitive taxes on common products by this regime,” added the opposition leader.

The statement is pegged on a claim by a whistleblower that recently released a survey indicating Raila won the August 9 poll with over 8.1 million votes against Ruto’s 5.9 million votes.

However, government allies have dismissed the whistleblower, claiming he is part of the opposition plot to spread propaganda about the presidential election results and the Kenya Kwanza government.

They have also questioned why he never presented the evidence at the Supreme Court which confirmed Ruto’s win.

The apex court in its ruling said the petitioners did not provide sufficient evidence to warrant overturning the results.

Since the whistleblower made public his data, the opposition has been demanding the opening of an IEBC server – one of the demands that Raila named during the Kamukunji Grounds rally.
