A section of Nyanza leaders elected on an ODM ticket has continued their engagement with the government despite the backlash that their meetings have faced.

The leaders have been meeting ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo since their visit to the State House in which they held a meeting with President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

While the meeting has since seen a number of the leaders threatened with expulsion, some of the MPs that were present have stood their ground and continued to meet the CS.

On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, some of the ODM legislators met the CS who was accompanied by his Water and Irrigation counterpart Alice Wahome.

According to an update on CS Owalo’s social media pages, the meeting focused on water, sanitation and irrigation projects that the government plans to roll out in the Nyanza region.

“Midmorning today, we have had a very fruitful meeting with the CS for Water and Irrigation, Alice Wahome, and a number of MPs from Nyanza,” the CS posted on his Facebook page.

“The deliberations centred on Water, Sanitation and Irrigation projects within the Lake Region,” he added.

Water Principal Secretary Dr Paul Rono and Irrigation Secreyart Aboud Moeya were other government officials that attended the meeting.

Nyanza MPs present, as listed by CS Owalo include Bondo’s Gideon Ochanda, Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Elisha Odhiambo (Gen), Mark Nyamita (Uriri), Paul Abuor (Rongo) and Felix Oduor of Lang’ata who is popularly known as Jalang’o.

The meeting, CS Owalo further said, was a continuation of engagements between Nyanza legislators and the government on development matters.

“Today’s meeting is a continuation of the MPS’ ongoing engagement with the Kenya Kwanza Government on matters development following an initial meeting between the MPS and H. E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto,” said the CS.

Since the Nyanza leaders first visited State House, some of those that attended have been stripped of their ODM branch leadership roles, and disciplinary measures initiated against them.
