English Premier League (EPL) side Manchester United’s new signing, midfielder Casemiro’s squad number has been confirmed.

The Brazilian midfielder’s move from Spanish giants Real Madrid to Old Trafford was confirmed on Monday.

He was in the stands as United beat Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford on Monday night.

He will don jersey number 18, which was previously pulled on by legendary English midfielder, Paul Aaron Scholes.

At Real Madrid, Casemiro, official name Carlos Henrique wore the number 14 jersey.

He spoke highly of the now retired Scholes after confirmation that he will take up his past jersey.

“He’s a player that was small but he got stuck in, he was a fighter, he gave everything on the pitch. His passing over 50 to 70 metres was incredible,” said the defensive midfielder, as quoted by Manchester United website.

He added on Scholes, “That little guy was very good and what I loved about him when he played was that he was small but he went in hard and fair.”

While starting out at Brazilian Club Sao Paolo, the five-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid donned jersey no.8 and later no.28.

At Real Madrid, the South American wore no.18, no.38 and no.16. While on loan at FC Porto, he pulled on no.6 before eventually making no.14 his own at Real Madrid for the last seven seasons.

He will be available when United visit Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium in an early kick-off on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester United has lost to Brentford and Brighton and beaten Liverpool in the first three matches of the 2022/2023 season.
