Ruto halts plans to recruit CASs

President William Ruto has announced that his administration will no longer persuade ongoing process of employing Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs).

Appointment of the CASs has been among the issues that young protesters have spoken against.Ruto a few months ago appointed over 50 CASs but decision was later declared null and void.

However, there has been an ongoing process of establishing legal framework under which the CASs with operate on.

But in light with the withdrawal of the 2024 Finance Bill, Ruto said that process will now be put on hold.

In an interview with leading TV stations, the Head of State said the CASs will only je appointed once the economy has improved.He further noted that there will no financial support to the Office of the First Lady and the second lady starting the 2024/2025 Financial Year.

“I know people have raised issues of CASs. Even after Parliament approved the position of CAS, I have not appointed any CAS. No CAS will be appointed until we have an economy that can support more opportunities. I know citizens have said there is no need for the Office of the First Lady or second lady. These are offices that were there. Those offices from tomorrow will not be part of our equation,” Ruto said.

The President also said he was ready for an engagement with the young people so as to address their issues and find a way the country can move forward.He admitted that rejecting the Finance Bill will have far reaching implications on his initial plan for the country.

Among the areas likely to be affected is the plan we employment of Junior Secondary School teachers, finding to counties as well as allocations to the Judiciary and the National Assembly.
