Clout chasing is not a new name in the celebrity game. Celebrities would do anything to gain influence, create a massive audience of followers in their social media platforms, and create their brand identities or their new songs  in the most dramatic way they know.

Here in east Africa, clout has earned celebrities their names in the game, with some willing to do anything including jeopardizing their own reputation just to get famous as if they were not famous enough.

 

Here are the top 5 celebrity clout chasers to watch out for.

 

1. Ringtone Apoko

The self proclaimed chairman of the gospel industry in Kenya has been a household name in the Kenyan music industry but hasn’t got as much recognition as he would like.

Apoko has come out a couple of times with controversial remarks against his fellow artists and creators.

From confessing his undying love for Zari, to claiming he owns the most expensive trouser in the world.

He has been very popular with online content creators and YouTube influencers.

 

2. Willy paul

Wilson Abubakar Radido alias Willy Paul is a showbiz name in the secular music business.

The ‘tupewe pombe‘ hit maker with a massive following of over 2.3 million followers  on Instagram recently came out claiming to be in a romantic relationship with ‘Jeraha’ hit maker Jovial, only for the both of them to come out clear that they were not dating days after the pull.

The two were widely trolled by netizens for using the show sell their new song ‘lalala’.

 

3. Erik Omondi 

Perhaps one of the most decorated comedians in the country, Erick Omondi has always mastered a way of  rolling his head through the cameras eyes.

The ‘President of African comedy’ has managed to cause an internet buzz on several occasions by crossdressing to promote his videos on YouTube.

He also once claimed to buy a multimillion dollar mansion in Karen worth 141 million only to later come out claiming the Mansion was Airbnb rented to promote his show ‘wife material’.

 

4. Diamond Platnumz

‘Simba’ and his love Zuchu, last week went viral on twitter after announcing their pre-mature break up which attracted widespread speculations from netizens who got perplexed at how the two lover birds could break ties after their lavish photos in Paris over the holidays and viral pictures of them making out in public.

Today diamond posted a picture gifting Zuchu with a diamond ring in London. Netizens are now claiming that their breakup was all about chasing clout.

 

5. Vera sidika

The socialite and fashion model made headlines last year after claiming she underwent a procedure to remove butt implants.

The news was received with mixed reactions with a section of the public ridiculing her while others comforted her, only for her to come out clear that the news was fake.

Kenyans on twitter trolled her for using the news to promote her new song.
