The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party will later this month hold a nomination exercise to pick its candidates for the upcoming by-elections.
A notice shared on UDA’s official Twitter handle on November 7, 2022, indicates that the nomination will be held to select candidates for the Elgeyo Marakwet Senate seat by-election and the Kandara Constituency mini-poll.
The nomination will be held on November 26, 2022.
The party will also pick a candidate that will fly its flag in the Shella Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) in Lamu County.
“Following the declaration of vacancies in the offices of Member of the National Assembly Kandara Constituency, Member of the Senate for Elgeyo Marakwet County and Member of the County Assembly of Shellah Ward, Lamu County, United Democratic Alliance announces the party nominations will be held on November 26, 2022,” read part of the notice signed by UDA National Elections Board (NEB) chairman Eng. Anthony Mwaura.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) last week announced that by-elections in the electoral areas will be held on January 5, 2023.
This was after the resignation of Alice Wahome (Kandara MP) and Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet Senator) to take up the Cabinet Secretary post.
Aside from setting the nomination date, UDA has also announced the nomination fee that candidates seeking to vie for the seat will be required to pay.
Male candidates seeking to vie for the MP and Senate seats will be required to pay Ksh250,000 each while the nomination fee for the female, youth and persons with disabilities has been set at Ksh125,000.
For the MCA candidates, males will pay Ksh50,000 and Ksh25,000 for women, youth and persons with disabilities.
However, the party has not announced a date for the Garissa Township nomination.
The seat fell vacant after Aden Duale resigned, also to take up the Defense Cabinet Secretary post that he was appointed to by President William Ruto.
