A 20-year-old man yesterday appeared before a Mombasa court charged with possessing witchcraft charms and human skulls.

Tsuma Ndaro denied the offense which is contrary to Kenyan laws and told Mombasa Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku that the human skulls and the other witchcraft paraphernalia belonged to someone he did not reveal.

Tsuma allegedly committed the offense on March 7 this year at Tudor Moroto Simiti area in Mvita Sub-county.

The suspect was arrested after his neighbors complained to their landlord of a foul smell emanating from his house.

The foul smell was reportedly traced to luggage that was found inside the accused’s rental house by another man who lives together with the suspect.

The landlord informed the area village elder who in turn informed the local administrator who told the house owner to alert the police.

Upon interrogation, the suspect allegedly claimed that he took the human skulls and witchcraft charms from a witch in Likoni after the latter failed to pay money that he owed him.

It is claimed the witch was to refund the suspect’s money after failing to execute an assignment he had given him.

The suspect was released on a Sh200,000 bond with one surety or an alternative cash bail of Sh100,000.

The case is scheduled for mention on March 16.
