The Rights Group that furthers the agenda of People with Disability in the County, consisting of Humanity and Inclusion (HI)- World Food Program (WFP), National Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), Turkana Chapter and the National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) have amplified calls for a comprehensive policy that will advocate and streamline the rights of PWD across the board.

This was revealed in a meeting between the Chief Officer for Education and Social Protection, Moses Korea and Humanity and Inclusion team in Lodwar.

The meeting focused on the means of enhancing observation against violation of rights of Persons with disabilities and the need for a more comprehensive policy to act as an advocacy tool.

On his part, Chief Korea restated the government’s commitment towards promotion of social protection ideals through its own and strategic partnership initiatives.

He pointed out public procurement, employment and food distribution as some of the areas in which the County Government had taken deliberate efforts to ensure PWD were involved and included.

The CCO echoed the push for a county-led and comprehensive policy to streamline interventions, and benefit the PWDs even further.

On capacity building, he agreed to avail PWDs and their caretakers for a training by Humanity and Inclusion on various aspects including access to inclusive funding.

Hebrews Idoka and Josephat Ekeno (Deputy Directors Social Protection and PWD Affairs) respectively, and Samwel Ekeno (Turkana Central Trade Development Officer) were present.

Also in attendance were David Omondi (HI Area Manager), Benard Kariuki (HI Project Officer), Niva Lopetet (KNCCI) and Benson Ebei (County Coordinator, NCPWD).
