A mother of a six-year-old boy diagnosed with neurocognitive deficits is appealing to well-wishers to help her raise over Sh1.3 million to airlift her son to India for specialized treatment.
Six years ago, Millicent Arego a single mother gave birth to a bouncing baby boy, but when he turned three years old, life took a sudden twist after he fell and convulsed.
Then a long, arduous journey to seek treatment for Neuro Regenerative Rehabilitation Therapy with Integrative Therapies began.
According to medical documents, the treatment in India will entail a comprehensive rehabilitation program which includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and psychological counselling.
It also includes regenerative treatment with autologous bone marrow-derived cell transplantation along with integrative therapies.
“We rushed him to the nearest hospital and we were told the child must be referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he underwent a Computed Tomography (CT scan), and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI scan).
The doctors informed me the problem was in the brain. Since then I have exhausted all the hospitals in the country.
I even across borders in Uganda and Tanzania,” said Asego.Specialists’ doctors have assured the mother that her son can be treated before reaching seven years.
She worries that July is fast approaching and his son will turn seven years old.“The money will cater for all the expenses.
I appeal to well-wishers to help my child get treatment. As a mother, it is hard to have a child like this. I have tried to enroll him in special schools but he can’t learn because of his condition,” said Arego.
