AK official Korir confident Team Kenya will dominate in Paris

By Peter Ochieng

Team Kenya for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France is all but set, after successful trials at the Nyayo National in Nairobi over the weekend.

Athletics Kenya (AK) named a dream team of over 30 athletes expected to spearhead Kenya’s hunt for gold in track events. The Summer Olympics start on July 26, before curtains come down on August 11, 2024.

AK Nairobi branch Chairman Barnaba Korir on Monday said he is confident that Team Kenya will perform well during the Olympics.

“This team was selected on merit; they are preparing really well for the competition. I am sure they will put in a great performance in France. As a country we should expect very good results this year.”

“We need to support this team as much as we can. It keeps them going and pushing themselves hard to make sure they deliver more medals for Kenya. That is my request to all Kenyans ahead of the games,” he added.

The Kenya squad to the 2024 Summer Olympics is headlined by two-time Olympics marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge. The legendary marathoner is seeking to become the first man in the world to win three Olympics marathon titles on the trot, after emerging victorious in Brazil’s Capital, Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo four years later.

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala and three-time world 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon are some of the other star performers and perennial champions in the team. Faith is aiming for gold in both the 1500 and 5000m races.

Athletics events in Paris will start on August 1 and conclude on August 11.
