Bandits raid, steal livestock near KDF chopper crash site in Elgeyo Marakwet

Suspected bandits on Friday reportedly raided a village near the site where a KDF helicopter crashed, leading to the death of CDF General Francis Ogolla.

According to Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisely Rotich, the bandits stole animals at Kaben area.

The area is near the site where the helicopter that was carrying the military boss and 10 others crashed.Only two people that were on board the chopper survived.

Sharing news of the latest bandit attack in the area, Governor Rotich it was time lethal action was used to deal with the criminals.

The attack comes barely a day after the helicopter crash accident.

“Emboldened bandits could not allow us to mourn CDF Ogolla ,His Team and the Old man from Kowow village in peace,” the county boss said.

“They just raided and stole animals at Kaben village near the crash site when Security agencies were trying to evaluate the scene,” he added.

Kerio Valley has been facing insecurity in the last few years.

The government is currently undertaking an operation aimed at flashing them out.

Gen Ogolla was in the area to visit some of the troops involved in the Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift before the tragic accident occurred.

He also assessed renovations for schools set to be reopened.

The schools were closed due to rampart insecurity.

“How heartless can these bandits be. I think it’s time for a lethal and painful disarmament, killing of bandits who will not surrender na watu wapelekwe shule ya lazima,” the Elgeyo Marakwet Governor said.

“The direct and indirect human loses that we have made in this banditry war are just too much,” he added.

Despite heavy presence of the police and military, the bandits have still been able tostage their attacks.
