Dams and rivers near Maralal town burst their banks following heavy all-night downpour Wednesday rendering several roads impassable.

Vehicles coming from Loosuk to Maralal town were blocked at Lolkukur river while parts of Maralal Kenyatta stadium were swept away by raging waters.

A survey conducted by KNA indicated that all parts of Samburu County experienced heavy rain causing destruction in several parts including Samburu Central, North and East but fortunately, there were no reports of anybody being swept away.

Speaking to KNA today in Maralal town, Samburu County Commissioner Mr John Cheruyot said the government through disaster response committee was on high alert to handle any eventuality and urged affected residents to move to safer grounds.

He called on residents to report any case of floods to nearest Chief’s office for quick response.
