Breaking: Building under demolition collapses in South B, several trapped

By Patricia Mollyne Mataga

Kenya Red Cross emergency response team has been dispatched following reports of a building collapsing in South B, Nairobi.

The humanitarian agency in a statement on its social media pages said the incident had been reported at Fuata Nyayo area.

It noted that already one person has been rescued from the building that was under demolition.

It is believed that at least two people are still strapped under the building.

“One person has been rescued, while two others are suspected to be trapped after a building under demolition collapsed in Fuata Nyayo, South B, Nairobi,” said the Kenya Red Cross Society in a statement on their verified X handle.

“Rescue efforts are ongoing,” it added.

The government has been demolishing structures suspected to have been build on riparian land within the city.

It is however unclear if the building was among those that the government was demolishing.

The move seeks to protect riparian land in what the government believes will help reduce cases of floodings that have been witnessed in the city due to heavy rainfall.
