Breaking: Residential building collapses in Uthiru

A Kenya Red Cross society emergency response team was on Tuesday night dispatched after a multi-storey building collapsed.

The society in an update on its verified social media pages said the building was within Uthiru area.

Reports further said the affected building was high by five floors.

“In Uthiru, Nairobi County, a building has collapsed, response teams are en route to the scene,” Kenya Red Cross said in part of the statement.

It added that the building is along Naivasha road, next to the International Livestock Research Institute.

In addition, unconfirmed reports claims the building hosted several tenants.

“An apartment known as Espsom Apartments has collapsed off Naivasha road opposite ILRI. Emergency response on site . It is a 5 floor apartment and seems the ground and first floor have merged,” popular blogger Cyprian Nyakundi posted on his X handle.

Cause of the collapse is yet to be established.

However it is suspected to be related to the ongoing heavy rains.

The rains have already lead to floodings which have wrecked havock across the country.

In Nairobi alone, at least 40,000 people have been displaced.

Nationally, 238 people have list their lives and over 70 others are reported as missings.174 have also been injured.
