German international and Real Madrid Midfielder Toni Kroos has announced that he will retire from football after the UEFA Euro 2024 Hosted by his country Germany next month.
Kroos will bring an end to a 10-year spell at the club, during which he has won 22 titles across 463 appearances. There is still the possibility that he could add to that with the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund on June 1st set to be his final match with Los Blancos.
“July 17th, 2014 – the day of my presentation at Real Madrid, the day that changed my life. My life as a footballer, but especially as a person”.
“It was the start of a new chapter at the biggest club in the world. After 10 years, at the end of the season this chapter comes to an end”.
“I will never forget that insolent successful time! I would particularly like to thank everyone that welcomed me with an open heart and trusted me”.
“But especially I would like to thank you, Madridistas, for your affection and your love from the first day until the last one. At the same time this decision means that my career as an active footballer will end this summer after the Euro championship”.
“I am happy and proud, that in my mind I found the right timing for my decision and that I could choose it by my own. My ambition was always to finish my career at the peak of my performance level”.
“From now on there is only one leading thought: a por la 15! HALA MADRID Y NADA MAS!”, Kroos has posted.
Kroos has won four Champions League titles, five Club World Cups, four European Super Cups, four La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and four Spanish Super Cups while with Real Madrid.
Before joining the Spanish club, he also won the World Cup with Germany in 2014, and arrived from Bayern Munich having sealed one Champions League title, one Club World Cup, one European Super Cup, three Bundesliga titles, three DfB Pokals and two German Super Cups.
Kroos has played 46 times in the 2023/24 football season, starting in 33 games, including every match in the club’s knock-out rounds of the Champions League to reach the final.
“Toni Kroos is one of the great players in Real Madrid history and this club will always be his home,” Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez said in a statement on Tuesday morning.
Kroos has 108 international appearances to his name and 17 goals for Germany.
