Lamu businessmen want the government to allow them round the clock operation along the Garsen –Lamu road.

They argued that the current eight hours’ period was punitive and bad for business and demanded for withdrawal of the limitations to open room for a 24 hours’ operation for trade to thrive in the region.

The business community regretted that for about ten years the operation on the Lamu-Garsen road has been under security monitoring whereby five road blocks have mounted along the road manned by Kenya Defence Forces.

Tana River county commissioner, Mr. David Koske, advised businessmen to wait for improved security along Garsen-Lamu road before operating 24 hours instead of 8 hours due to banditry incidents.

Mr. Koske spoke with businessmen in Garsen town, stating that the situation is not currently in a bad state.

The county commissioner stated that the road is monitored by both the county and national security committees, and will only operate 24 hours until the situation is resolved.

Mr. Koske stated that the road is currently unable to operate 24 hours due to ongoing banditry attacks in Lamu County, where two people were killed two weeks ago.
