Chelsea’s midfield sensation Cole Palmer has been voted the Hublot 2023 premier league Young player of the season after an impressive performance with the Blues helping them climb from bottom half table to almost quality for the European competition next season.
The 22 year old has scored 22 premier league goals and 10 assists this season with a total of 32 goals and assists this season, the joint-most of any player in the Premier League.
He is only the third player in history to reach 30+ goal involvements in a PL season while aged 21 or younger, after Robbie Fowler and Chris Sutton.
Palmer is the league’s second-highest scorer, with his 22 goals trailing only Man City striker Erling Haaland in the Castrol Golden Boot race also looking to win the playmaker of the season with an assist less from Aston Villa’s Otile Watkins.
The teenager joined Chelsea from Manchester City last summer in a 42 million Euro deal after a successful but limited game time at City where he won the treble, Club World Cup and UEFA super cup scoring goals in the Super cup and the community shield finals respectively.
Palmer has matched Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard’s Chelsea record of 16 home Premier League goals in a season also being the youngest English player to score over 20 goals in a single premiere league campaign.
Palmer is the first Chelsea player to win the award since it was introduced in 2019/20.
Palmer will also be running for the EA SPORTS Player of the Season award alongside Erling Haaland, Otile Watkins, Virgil Van Djik, Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice and Phil Foden.
The EA SPORTS Player of the Season will be announced at 11:00 BST on Saturday 18 May. You can see the shortlist, here.
Palmer is also expected to be nominated for England squad to compete for the UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany set to begin in June.
