A 2-year-old boy died while his mother together and his three other siblings sustained serious injuries after their semi-permanent rented house collapsed on them in Bondo town last night following an overnight down pour.

The deceased together with his 35-year-old mother Lilian Aoko, siblings Clinton Okoth (10), Michael Omondi (8) and Fransisca Atieno (5) were asleep at around midnight when the house collapsed on them.

According to Siaya County Police Commander Mr Cleti Kimaiyo, the incident was reported to Bondo Police station by David Ochieng,’ a Boda boda operator within Bondo town, that a rental house had collapsed within Bansi area.

He stated that police officers who were on patrol then rushed to the scene and established that the mud walls of a semi-permanent rental house comprising of three single rooms had soaked due to the ongoing rains and caved in.

The police boss said that during the ill-fated incident, Lilian together with her three children Clinton, Michael and Fransisca sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Bondo sub-county hospital for treatment while her fourth child Paul Scoll Omondi died on the spot due to the impact of the collapsed walls.

While confirming the incident, Mr Kimaiyo stated that the body of the child was removed to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary to wait postmortem while tenants who were in the neighboring houses have evacuated and advised to seek shelter in the neighborhood.
