The County Government of Nyeri, through the department of County Public Service and Solid Waste Management Tuesday conducted a clean – up exercise in Naromoru town, Kieni East Sub County in an effort to prevent outbreak of diseases.

The exercise themed “Be Clean! Be Healthy” was conducted in collaboration with Arsen’s Cleaning Service also aimed at sensitizing members of the community on the role environment plays in enhancing the health of the community.

The exercise brought together all stakeholders from the business community, pupils and students, tourism players, youth and women groups, national and County Government of Nyeri officers among others.

Among the activities undertaken includes litter collection, de-silting of storm drains as well as draining of waste waters trapped in open storm drains. More clean-up exercises are lined in other markets and trading centers across the county.

Ngatia observed the disregard by which some individuals dispose of their waste water in storm drains and promised to establish a multi-agency team to solve the challenge.

He said this initiative was born out of the need to sensitize the public on the need to take care of the environment.

Participants also planted trees at Naromoru stadium in line with the County Government of Nyeri greening programme.
