In a significant development, the Finance Bill 2024 has successfully passed its Second Reading in the National Assembly, securing 204 votes in favor.
The vote, which took place during a Thursday evening session, was announced by Speaker Moses Wetangula.Speaker Wetangula detailed the results, noting that 115 Members of Parliament opposed the Bill.
Importantly, he also mentioned that no legislators abstained from the vote.The Bill is set to return to the entire House on Tuesday next week for further deliberation.
During this session, members will have the opportunity to introduce amendments and vote on each individual clause of the Bill.
Following this stage, the Finance Bill 2024 will proceed to its Third Reading, where a final vote will determine its fate.
Should there be any disagreements over the Bill or the proposed amendments, the matter will be referred to a mediation committee.
This committee’s task will be to develop a version of the Bill that can be considered and voted on by the House.
After the mediation process, the House will debate and cast votes on the mediated version of the Bill, deciding its final outcome.
