For the last two years, Meru County has experienced heightened political temperature with two impeachment attempts on the area governor.
There has been alleged political difference with over two thirds of Members of County Assemblies accusing Governor Kawira Mwangaza of sidelining them in the development of their wards.
Speaking to the Minority Leader Mwenda Ithili, the MCA say they have come up with an itemized budget for 2023/2024 financial year with every ward to be allocated Sh45 million which does not go well with the Executive.
Equally the Members of Parliament in the region allege that the governor is a lone ranger in her governance and that at times, they were not involved in matters that pertain to service delivery.
Meru Deputy Governor Mutuma Ethingia says he has been summoned by the Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders to iron out the differences that have been existing between him and his boss.
The DG said that he was more than willing to appear before the council and shed light over the political temperatures for the betterment of the county.
In a compelling call for harmony and unity among Meru political leaders, the Council of Elders has urged Meru county leaders to prioritize peaceful coexistence for the betterment of the region noting that for the county to progress and thrive, leaders have to put aside political differences and ideologies and work collaboratively to pave way for the region’s advancement.
While recognizing the importance of dialogue and reconciliation, the council noted that they have commenced the mediation process in order to solve the political disputes between the governor and the MCAs who in a span of two years have impeached the county boss twice.
“In order to promote inclusivity and prioritize the welfare of the Meru people, there is a critical need for collaboration and cooperation among all leaders,” said Njuri Ncheke chairman Linus kathera.
He urged all leaders including those in national government to rise above political differences and work towards delivering their promises to the electorates.
“Although we are non-political, we cannot sit and watch the electorates suffer because of unnecessary tension and misunderstanding among the elected leaders whose core mandate is to focus on the developmental agendas such as health, education, good infrastructure among others,” Kathera elaborated.
