County launches Ukombozi Elimu Bursary programme

Trans Nzoia County Government, has launched a multi-million bursary programme, to help children from vulnerable families access education.

Speaking during the launch of the Initiative, Thursday, Governor George Natembeya, said the County has set aside Sh150,500,000 this Financial Year for the ‘Ukombozi’ Elimu Bursary Programme, where 12,062 beneficiaries are targeted.

From the total number of beneficiaries, 3,246 will be those who scored 250 marks and above in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and are in day schools, 3,371 those in form two, whereas 2,849 in the remaining forms.

The programme will also benefit 25 students from Trans Nzoia County, who are in national schools across the country.

The Governor further revealed that needy students in vocational training institutions, colleges and universities, will also stand a chance to benefit.

Terming education as equalizing factor, Natembeya said that his Administration is committed to ensure a fair playing ground for all, as he oozed confidence, the programme will unlock boundless opportunities for many needy students.

“Realising the noble role education plays in development of a country, my government is committed to ensure that no child fails to go to school, because of fees.It is on that basis that we are rolling-out this programme, to help children from humble beginnings achieve their academic dreams,” he said.

Affirming that the funds will only be issued out to deserving cases, Natembeya warned that any form of cheating and galvanisation to access the funds, will be dealt with severely.

Present during the exercise was County Secretary, Truphosa Amere, County Executive Committee Members (CECMs), Phanice Khatundi (Agriculture), Boniface Wanyonyi (Finance), Deputy Speaker, Obed Mwale, among others.
