Court Approves Seizure of Sh113.9m and Prime Properties from Former Nairobi County Official

A Nairobi court has granted the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) permission to seize Sh113.9 million in cash and seven prime properties belonging to former Nairobi County Chief Finance Officer Jimmy Kiamba, amid ongoing investigations into corruption allegations.

On Wednesday, the court supported the EACC’s request to confiscate Kiamba’s assets, which include substantial cash deposits and properties in some of Nairobi’s most coveted areas.

The court’s decision is a significant victory in the fight against corruption in Kenya’s public sector.

The EACC had presented evidence suggesting that the assets were acquired through illicit means during Kiamba’s tenure as the Chief Finance Officer.

“This ruling sends a clear message that corruption and illicit gains will not be tolerated,” said EACC Chairperson Eliud Wabukala. “We are committed to ensuring that public officials are held accountable for their actions.”he added.

The seized properties, located in upscale neighborhoods, are estimated to be worth millions.

Among them are luxury apartments and commercial buildings that have been linked to Kiamba.

The court’s decision followed a detailed investigation by the EACC, which uncovered significant discrepancies between Kiamba’s declared income and his amassed wealth.

Residents and officials have reacted positively to the court’s decision. “This is a step in the right direction for our judicial system,” remarked John Kamau, a Nairobi resident. “We hope this sets a precedent for other cases of corruption.”Kamau added.

Jimmy Kiamba has been under investigation since his tenure ended, with allegations of embezzlement and abuse of office tarnishing his career.

The EACC has been at the forefront of the investigations, determined to reclaim misappropriated funds and assets.

Corruption remains a persistent issue in Kenya, and the government, along with anti-corruption agencies, are intensifying efforts to address it.

The court’s decision Is expected to pave way for further investigations and potential prosecutions of other officials implicated in similar corruption cases.

The EACC continues to urge the public to report any suspicious activities and collaborate in the fight against corruption.

This ruling marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s ongoing battle against corruption.
