Under the directive of President William Ruto for a nationwide tree-growing exercise to mitigate climate change, Cabinet Secretary of Labour and Social Protection, Florence Bore, spearheaded a significant tree-planting exercise in Bomet County.

The initiative took place at the Chepalungu Forest Block, where 200,000 indigenous trees were planted across two blocks of the forest.

CS Bore emphasized the importance of preserving these newly planted seedlings, urging locals residing near the forest to refrain from any activities that could disrupt their growth.

“We must allow these seedlings to flourish and contribute to our environment,” she stressed.

Furthermore, the CS announced that her Ministry and its associated agencies have taken responsibility for the Siongiroi Block within the forest.

They pledged to oversee the maintenance of the seedlings and ensure the overall well-being of the forest.

“We are committed to nurturing these trees and safeguarding our natural resources,” CS Bore affirmed.

In addition to government efforts, Bore called upon the Forest Department to conduct regular follow-ups to monitor the survival of all planted trees.

She also urged residents to participate in the tree planting initiative by incorporating recommended tree species into their farms.

This combined effort aims to contribute to the government’s ambitious target of planting 15 billion trees nationwide.

Several senior government officials joined CS Bore in the tree planting exercise, including Dr. Idris Salim Dokota, PS State Department for Cabinet Affairs, Bomet Governor Hillary BarchoK, Senator Hillary Sigei, County Commissioner Dr. Omar Ahmed, among other senior officials.
