Kenya Kwanza digital strategist Dennis Itumbi now says an impeachment motion facing Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi is bound to fail.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula on Tuesday approved the motion that seeks the removal of Linturi from office.
The motion is sponsored by Bumula Member of Parliament Jack Wamboka. But as legislators prepare to debate the motion, Itumbi claims it is being sponsored by the opposition.
The digital strategist who is a close ally of President William Ruto further termed the motion pure politics.
However, he noted that a majority of the legislators do not support the impeachment motion.
While presenting the motion before the National Assembly Speaker, Wamboka, an Azimio-allied legislator said he had secured the support of at least 100 MPs.
But Itumbi claims some that had appended their signatures in support of Linturi’s ouster have already made a U-turn.
“The impeachment motion against CS @mithika_Linturi is nothing but cheap politics sponsored by the opposition,” said the digital strategist in part of a post on X.
“That is why 240 MPS have not bothered to sign & the ones who have signed have started withdrawing their signatures,” he added.
The MPs are expected to debate the motion as earlier as this Thursday.
Despite facing impeachment, CS Linturi has remained firm.
He on Tuesday insisted that he had no role in the fake fertilizer scam that is threatening his position.
Already three senior National Cereals and Produce Board officials have been arrested in relation to the scam.
The three including Managing Director Joseph Kimote are expected to be arraigned in court on Thursday.
