A fierce court battle may be brewing between roads and transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen, and Nandi Senator Samson Kiprotich Arap Cherargei.
The two politicians are members of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), and allies of President William Ruto.
Murkomen has reportedly sued the vocal Senator, after the legislature claimed that he recieved a Sh15 billion bribe from a Chinese investor in order to issue road construction contracts in his ministry.
The Senator on Monday shared court documents served to him from the commercial wing of the Milimani Law Courts.
The court documents show that the lawsuit was filed on March 12, 2024.
“You are hereby required within 15 days from the date of service hereof to enter an appearance in the said suit. Should you fail to enter appearance within the time mentioned above, the plaintiff may proceed with the suit and judgement may be given in your absence,” court papers read in part.
In response, the Senator said he will not be ‘boxed into a corner’ as he performs his oversight roles.
“We shall defend the great people of Nandi County in the quest for better roads through our blood and sweat,” he stated.
The two allies of President Ruto have had a frosty relationship since last year.
