Kenyans have a reason to smile following the latest fuel prices review by the Energy Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
In their monthly review for prices in the next 30 days, prices have significantly dropped, with diesel and kerosine users the biggest beneficiary.
A litre of Diesel will drop by Ksh10 while that of Kerosine will drop by Ksh18.68 per litre.
The price of Super Petrol will also drop by Ksh5.31 per litre in the next 30 days.
“The prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised,” EPRA said in a statement on Sunday.
With the latest review of the prices, a litre of petrol will retail at Ksh193.84 from Ksh193.84 from Ksh199.15 in Nairobi Diesel will retail at Ksh 180.38 while a litre of Kerosene will retail at a maximum of Ksh170.06 in Nairobi.
The new fuel prices will be in place until May 14, 2024.
This is the second month running that EPRA has announced a drop in fuel prices.
Last month, it reduced the prices for an average of KSh7 per litre.
Earlier in the day, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura told Kenyans to prepare for a major announcement.
The announcement, Mwaura said, would have huge impact on the cost of living.He also noted that it was an affirmation of the Kenya Kwanza administration fulfilling it’s pre-election pledges.
“A major announcement on the reduction of fuel prices shall be made today at 3:00 pm by the Energy and PetroleumRegulatory Agency (EPRA)! This will go a long way in reducing the cost of living in the country for hustlers and Kenyans at large,” Mwaura said.
“Truly, Kenya Kwanza led by President William Ruto is on delivering its promisesStay tuned,” he added.
