The family of Nairobi deejay Felix Orinda popularly known as DJ Evolve is in mourning following the death of his mother, Mary Hongo.
According to DJ Evolve’s father, John Orinda, the 54-year-old mother collapsed and died at her Lucky Summer home in Nairobi on the evening of Wednesday, September 22, 2021.
She is said to have developed breathing problems before she collapsed.
Reports further indicated that DJ Evolve also collapsed after learning that his mother had passed on. Hongo had played a major role in nursing the deejay who has been bedridden after he was shot in the neck.
The Nairobi deejay was injured after he was involved in a scuffle with Embakasi Member of Parliament Babu Owino in 2019.
Since the tragic incident, DJ Evolve’s spine is yet to recover which left him in a state of constant care. He is currently unable to undertake almost all external bodily functions such as eating, movement, by himself.
“Since January 17, everything stopped on my side because I couldn’t do anything and my child is in this condition,” Hongo told the press during an interview last year.
Babu has since been charged with attempted murder but the case is still ongoing, Orinda’s family had sought to withdrawal in an out-of-court settlement.
In July this year, the Directorate of Public Communications (DPP) told a Nairobi court that DJ Evolve’s family and Babu have made “tremendous progress” in their engagements.
They added that there were only a few remaining documents that they were expecting in order to facilitate an out-of-court settlement.
