Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting President William Ruto amidst criticism from some leaders.
Speaking in Kagio, Kirinyaga County, during the Orphans Empowerment Programme, Gachagua emphasized his understanding of his role and dismissed any doubts about his loyalty to the President.
“Today, we are now seeing some of those who were not with the president lecturing us about loyalty to the president when we suffered to stand with President William Ruto when he needed us to stand with him,” Gachagua said.
He was firm In his position, stating that no Member of Parliament or Cabinet Secretary has the authority to supervise a deputy president.
“I know my job, an MP or a CS can’t supervise a deputy president. If you want to be a deputy president, go and look for President William Ruto who is the one who gives out that job when the day comes but for now just do your job, let me do my job.”
During his visit, Gachagua interacted with the residents of Kagio town, emphasizing the importance of engaging with citizens.
“People-centred leadership involves citizens via engagement,” he said.
Accompanied by elected leaders from various regions, Gachagua urged critics to cease causing confusion within the government and instead focus on helping the President fulfill his campaign promises.
“To our leaders, please let us be united and not fall to propaganda. Let us do our jobs. Cabinet Secretaries should also focus on their work.”
He highlighted the importance of unity within the region, stating, “The unity of this region is non-negotiable. Leaders may be divided in opinion, but I listen to what the residents say, they are united.”
Gachagua advised Parliament members to focus on their responsibilities and serve Kenyans diligently.
He reiterated his determination, saying no one could Intimidate him.
“I’m moved by conviction, I’m convinced that I need, as the leader of this region, to unite the people of the mountain behind our president and no amount of noise can distract me.”
The Deputy President urged residents to ignore critics and remain focused.
“We are not distracted; we are focused, we know where we have come from, where we are, and where we are going.”
