Public Transport Company Easy Coach has issued a statement following an accident involving one of its buses.

The accident was reported on Monday night.

Reports indicate that the bus was carrying Chavakali Boys High School students, one of whom died in the incident.

In a statement, Easy Coach said the accident happened at around 10 pm in the Mamboleo area in Kisumu.

The company also confirmed the death of one student.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm a fatal accident involving our Mbale-Nairobi bus that occurred in Mamboleo – Kisumu, on April 1, 2024, around 10 pm,” read part of the statement.

“One passenger tragically lost their life in the accident. We extend our heartfelt condolences to their family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” it added.

According to Easy Coach, three other passengers were admitted to the hospital. But at the time of issuance of the statement, the company said the three were in stable conditions.

It wished them a full and speedy recovery.

“Other passengers received medical attention and have since been discharged,” Easy Coach said.

Meanwhile, the cause of the accident is yet to be established.

A probe has been launched to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.

Further, the company said it had set up a communication line for any enquiries about the accident.

“For inquiries related to the accident, text or WhatsApp our support line at +254706800525 or email us at support@easycoachkenya.com,” the company said.

The Chavakali Boys students were heading home following the closure of the school for the April holidays.

The accident happened at a time when there has been concern over an increase in road accidents.

Early in the morning, over 10 people were killed in yet another accident after a multiple-car crash in the Salama area.

It was only a few weeks ago that 11 Kenyatta University students perished in an accident involving their bus at the coast.

A Moi University Bus was also involved in an accident but there were no fatalities.

The university later suspended all planned education trips.
