A somber mood has engulfed the education fraternity in Homa Bay county after a senior official of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) died under mysterious circumstances.
The deceased, Mr David Miruka who was the TSC Director in charge of Ndhiwa Sub-county was found dead in his rented house in Rodi Kopany Township, Homa Bay Sub-county.
Kanyango Location Chief Samuel Nyagwara said the deceased was found dead seated in a plastic chair in his house where he lived alone.
However, Nyagwara said Miruka’s body was discovered following a search after his phone remained switched off for long hours.
The administrator said his friends and colleagues had been looking for him unsuccessfully.
Two teachers discovered the deceased body after they went to his house to investigate his whereabouts.
“The former director was seen last in the office on Tuesday last week. The two teachers took time and went to his house to look for him,” Nyagwara said.
On their arrival, they found the door locked from inside without a padlock, they knocked on the door and shouted, but nobody could open for them.
“The two teachers made several knocks but nobody responded. They called neighbours before they forced opened the door,” Nyagwara said.
Upon opening the door, they found him dead while seated in a plastic chair in the sitting room.
“He was dressed in shorts and there were some drugs on the table which he might have been using,” Nyawara said.
Homa Bay County Police Commander Samson Kinne said Miruka’s body had no visible injuries.
“We have launched investigations to reveal what caused his death,” Kinne said.
The body was moved to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.
