Elgeyo Marakwet County has received movable assets worth Sh36 million from the Intergovernmental Technical Relationship Committee (ITRC).

Speaking in Iten, the area Deputy Governor (DG), Prof. Grace Cheserek, said the County received a total of 193 assets, which included 88 motor vehicles, 91 motor bikes and 10 plants, saying while some were in working condition, most were obsolete.

The DG said those working will be deployed to departments, which will help in alleviating transport challenges, while the obsolete ones will be disposed of and the proceeds used to purchase new ones.

“I am, therefore, calling on residents to be on the lookout and bid for the assets to be disposed of once they are advertised,” she said.

She said the County will repair two graders, which will be added to what the County already has, thus, assist in the maintenance of roads in the County.

Prof Cheserek said since its inception, the County has continued to suffer transport challenges, saying due to the limited resources received from the exchequer, its not able to purchase new vehicles, thus, being forced to rely on vehicles availed through donor funded projects.

She, therefore, called on the IRTC to fastrack the release of the original logbooks, to enable the County execute the disposal process.

The CEC Roads, Emmy Kosgey, thanked the IRTC, saying the handing over of the assets was long overdue, as they belonged to the defunct local authorities.

Eliud Koech from IRTC, assured the County that the Committee will work with the counties, to ensure the process is complete.
